HALL, STAIRS & LANDING | MARKET HARBOROUGH
The Brief:
This hallway, stairs and landing in a 5 year old new build has never been given any attention. It’s a light and airy space which needed to feel more welcoming and loved.
The client wanted to maintain the light in the space but also add a touch of drama, instant impact and the wow factor when the front door opens.
The scope covered flooring, lighting wall finishes and wall art. We were also asked to consider how we could manage the temperature in the hall as draughts made the space cold in winter and direct sunlight made it overly hot in Summer.

Chosen scheme:
Project complete:
We settled on a scheme which combined a pale but dusky blue on the walls with charcoal, pink, mustard and gold accents and bold monochrome carpet.

As with the majority of new builds, this space lacked any discernible character. To inject interest we created the illusion of a picture rail, decorating above in brilliant white and below in Craig and Rose Esterhazy chalk paint. We continued the datum line across all doors to reduce their impact on the space and create a talking point.

We maintained the white hard flooring in the hallway but replaced the carpet on the stairs and landing with a monochrome city stripe. The stairs were painted to match the walls and the carpet whipped into a runner, bound with golden yellow.

An existing side table was up-cycled, painted in Craig and Rose Rose pink with gold dipped legs and a black drop handle.

Over the front door, on a simple matt black pole, we hung full length charcoal grey blackout curtains which can be pulled back to one side when not needed.
Lighting was sourced from Creative Cables and Ikea. For all 3 pendants, we installed matt black pendant fittings with mustard cable from Creative Cables. We added Ikea’s clear glass Jokobsbyn shades which allowed the vintage-style oversized bulbs to be visible.

On the landing we placed a vivid yellow velvet armchair from Marks & Spencer to stop the void space becoming cluttered again. This contrasts brilliantly with the striped carpet.
