LIVING ROOM | BIRSTALL
The Brief:

This fabulous, generously proportioned lounge was perplexing my clients. Having tried a number of layouts, nothing seemed to feel right or work well for how they wanted to use the space. They were also drawing a blank on the interior décor. They were keen to embrace the traditional features of the room while modernizing it and, through changes to décor and layout, make the space more cozy and inviting.
The space will be used as a ‘grown up’ living room, predominantly used in the evenings while watching TV or socializing with friends.
My clients were confident to implement the scheme themselves so this project was to develop a concept to final scheme stage.

Chosen schemes:

A dark and moody scheme was chosen with sumptuous embroidered Colefax & Fowler fabric and burnished brass accents.
Project complete:

I designed built-in cabinetry in the alcoves on either side of the fireplace with feature lighting.
For drama, the cabinetry was painted the same colour as the walls and I mounted some incredible brass and gloss black 'Mullan' wall lights on the top of the cabinetry which hung over and illuminated the shelving.

I always like to reuse existing furniture where it's appropriate and feasible to do so. This cabinet was once an old fashioned orange pine, a coat of F&B Railings and some brass cup handles have completely transformed the piece and it now sits proudly in the bay window looking amazing and holding a lot of well-loved board games.
